The City

Istanbul is unlike any other city on earth — a metropolis that has served as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires, whose skyline is defined by the domes and minarets of monuments that have endured for fifteen centuries. To photograph Istanbul is to photograph the accumulated weight of human civilization.

This collection documents Istanbul's extraordinary architectural heritage with the precision and reverence it deserves — from the Byzantine grandeur of Hagia Sophia, whose golden mosaics have survived fifteen hundred years, to the soaring Ottoman magnificence of the Suleymaniye Mosque and the contemporary splendor of the Camlica Mosque on the Asian shore.

Every work in this collection was crafted without manipulation — the extraordinary beauty of these monuments requires no enhancement. The light of Istanbul, filtering through ancient windows and reflecting off gilded ceilings, is among the most beautiful in the world.

The Monuments

Hagia Sophia
537 AD · Byzantine · UNESCO World Heritage

The greatest surviving monument of Byzantine architecture — built in 537 AD by Emperor Justinian, converted to a mosque in 1453, a museum for nearly a century, and now a mosque once more. Its golden mosaic ceiling, soaring dome, and extraordinary interior light make it one of the most photographed interiors in the world. Documented here in multiple perspectives — exterior, interior dome, mosaic ceiling detail, and golden hour landscape.

Suleymaniye Mosque
1558 AD · Ottoman · Mimar Sinan

The masterwork of Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan — built for Suleiman the Magnificent and considered the finest mosque in Istanbul. Its grand interior — red carpeted prayer hall, cascading domes, and thousands of hanging lamps — is among the most awe-inspiring architectural spaces in the world. Documented here in full interior panorama and ceiling detail.

Blue Mosque
1616 AD · Ottoman · Sultan Ahmed I

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque — known universally as the Blue Mosque for its extraordinary interior of hand-painted Iznik tiles — stands directly across from Hagia Sophia in the heart of the historic peninsula. The only mosque in Istanbul with six minarets, its silhouette against the golden hour sky is one of the city's most iconic images.

Camlica Mosque
2019 AD · Contemporary Ottoman · Asian Shore

Istanbul's newest and largest mosque — completed in 2019 on Camlica Hill on the Asian shore, with a capacity for 63,000 worshippers and a dome visible from across the Bosphorus. Its interior combines contemporary craftsmanship with classical Ottoman design — the ceiling dome a masterwork of calligraphy and geometric pattern in blue and gold.

The BosphorusBetween Two Worlds

The Bosphorus Strait — 31 kilometres of water separating Europe from Asia — is not merely a geographical boundary. It is the defining feature of Istanbul's identity, the axis around which three thousand years of history have turned.

Photographed at golden hour, blue hour, and in long exposure panorama, the Bosphorus reveals a different character in each light — from the warm gold of sunset reflected on its surface to the cool luminosity of blue hour when the minarets of the European shore glow against the darkening sky.

Golden Hour Panorama

The Bosphorus at golden hour — the Sultan Ahmet district glowing in warm light, the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque silhouetted against a sky of extraordinary color.

Blue Hour Panorama

At blue hour, the Bosphorus transforms — the water a deep luminous blue, the minarets lit against the twilight sky, the bridges connecting two continents illuminated in gold.

Ortakoy Mosque

The Ortakoy Mosque — the Baroque Ottoman jewel at the foot of the Bosphorus Bridge — one of Istanbul's most beloved and photographed waterfront monuments.

Sunrise Panorama

The Bosphorus at first light — the vast panorama of the strait at its most still and luminous, before the city wakes and the water fills with ships.
